IGOR CAULDRONMAW

Class:
Barbarian/Bard

Overview

Igor is a player character I made for a DnD campaign with some friends that we never ended up having the time to start. He was meant to start with one level of Barbarian, and then immediately multiclass into Bard. The ill-advised-ness of that multiclass is the whole point.
His premise is that he was found as an egg and raised by a human to be a gladiator in an arena. He considers the human his father and was only ever taught to value glory gained through violence. One day, perhaps during a festival, he forms a connection with a bard who's demeanor profoundly affects him and his worldview. (it's his awakening.) After that fateful encounter, he starts to rejects everything he used to be and do, and throws himself into a new way of life, hoping that he can become a completely different person through that radical process.
With this character, I wanted to explore the ideas around what happens when you dedicate to doing something new with yourself out of repulsion for what you used to be, without acknowledging that there might be some good in who you are, and that rejecting every single element of a past identity doesn't work, or at least it's not good for you. I wanted Igor to learn that if he wants to become a peaceful musician, it's perfectly OK, but he couldn't just quit cold turkey who he's always used to be, that would keep crawling back until he dealt with what he wants to be in a healthy way.
Who knows where his actual character arc would've taken him, though! I think he's a simple enough concept that I could reuse the idea in a fitting campaign some time in the future.
